  1. Make joining simple. Remove any administration friction from the joining process across all touch points, from the initial enquiry through to the members first visit. This includes responding quickly to any membership enquiries on all channels (Facebook, phone, e-mail). Leaving an enquiry unanswered for even 24 hours could result in the prospect choosing a competitor or worse, losing motivation all together. Simplicity with your in-club and online joining process is vital, and a clean, easy-to-navigate website is a key factor in success.

  2. Solidify your value proposition. Understand the value you provide and the unique selling points of your club. Do you have the best instructors in town, the best customer service? You can’t be the best at EVERYTHING, so focus on what differentiates you from the competition, and deliver this in every customer interaction.

  3. Understand your prospects needs. The worst mistake you can make is to judge a book by its cover. There are 101 different reasons why someone may choose to join a health club and it’s your job to find out why, so that you can help them in the best possible way. Taking the time to sit down with a prospect, find out their fitness goals, and driving force behind these goals, will allow you to deliver a hyper personalised & quality experience for the potential member.

  4. Personalise the selling process. What’s in it for me (WIIFM)? This is an innate question consumers ask when making buying decisions. Address this when delivering your value proposition by focussing not just on the features of your club, but on the benefits it brings to your customers. Too many clubs deliver a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to tours of their facilities. After taking the time to understand what exactly it is that your prospective new members wants, tailor the tour accordingly.
