Paul Ramsay is the Managing Director at 3D leisure, a leading health, fitness and wellness management company, who manage over 100 sites in the UK. With over 25 year’s experience in the fitness industry, we were excited for this Q&A with Paul.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL BE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FOR HEALTH CLUB OPERATORS IN THE UK OVER THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
Technology is both an opportunity and a challenge at the moment as there has been so many new products brought to market over the last 12 months. Operators need to evolve to provide a digital service outside of the onsite environment but choosing which is the right solution for both now and the future is challenging.
Right now, we are all re-opening with vastly reduced membership and income levels and I believe that education is the key. We have to educate people that our venues are safe and also the importance of being fit and healthy in order to fight virus’ moving forward.
WHERE DO YOU SEE THE BIGGEST OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE UK FITNESS INDUSTRY OVER THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
If we get the right messaging as a country around the benefits of fitness then we will see growth in the percentage of the population that will join our facilities. Even just a 5% increase in penetration will make a massive difference to our industry.
WHAT ARE SOME KEY ACTIONS HEALTH CLUB’S CAN IMPLEMENT, EITHER IN THE SHORT TERM, OR LONG TERM TO SUCCEED IN THE NEW COVID-EXISTING LANDSCAPE?
Good communication is very important and building a community feel within each club is essential.
